Dynamic Display
This plug-in for Rhino aims to supply some real-time visualization tools. All user feedback will be welcome, so please add comments below if you have any request.
Download it here: DynamicDisplay.zip (WIP8, last update January 5 2010)
Unzip the rhp file from the zip archive and use Rhino’s PlugInManager command to install the plug-in. The toolbar should appear automatically. This plug-in requries Rhino 4.0 SR5 or greater.
Commands

ddMirrorPlane
This command defines a plane and enables a display conduit that redraws symmetrically all the geometry along that plane.
Could be used to model symmetrical objects like a yatch hull.
ddClippingObject
This is a slower but more flexible version of ClippingPlane command. Allows use any closed polysurface or mesh as clipping object.
If clipping objects are created while history is enabled in the editor, these can be modified later and section will be updated automatically.

ddExtractMesh
Copies the clipped mesh to create a separate mesh object… for render or analysis purposes.
Known Bugs and limitations
- Mirror plane has no representation so sometimes is dificult to figure out where it is.
- Currently objects into blocks are not clipped.
This technology preview version will expire and no longer run after March 1, 2010.

The plugin is very useful. Would it be possible for the ClippingObject to clip the Curves as well ?
Also it looks like it is causing some artifacts with V5 realitime shadows ( the shadows from the clipped objects are shown correct but there are some glitches along the edges ).
Great tool.

Hello. I have tried this plugin, and although the logic seems simple (model geometry, cutting geometry, etc) I for some reason am not setting this up correctly. I have model very similar to the image you present of the car, except my car is a sphere. I have a solid that I m trying to use s the cutting object…just closed polysrf similar to the outlines in the image. Under difference mode, the sphere disappears, but the cutting geometry is still visible, so the section cannot be seen. A simple tutorial of the work flow would help.

PROBLEM: I’ve made a plugin that create a conduit. With your plugin loaded, in wireframe mode my plugin works fine, but in rendered mode, my pluging seems to be disabled.FIXED in WIP06

seems useful …
what would be really fab is the option to convert this to real geometry, ie. cut the model according to the clippling planes, explode blocks, groups, etc

this plugin is great, but it causes a big slow-down in rhino. zooming, panning and general navigation are all much slower when this plugin is loaded.FIXED in WIP07
